– Calconcarboxylic acid, an azo dye, functions as a silver-ion sensitizer for staining proteins in SDS-PAGE gels by enhancing silver binding to protein bands or spots through the formation of a silver-dye complex and increasing the reducing power of the (sodium dodecyl sulfate [SDS]) solution.
