– 5-InoAz serves as a metabolic probe for labeling the mycobacterial cell envelope. It is specifically engineered as an inositol analog to integrate into cell envelope glycolipids [phosphatidylinositol mannoside (PIM), PIM-anchored lipomannan (LM), and lipoarabinomannan (LAM)]. Coupled with bioorthogonal chemistry, it offers a valuable tool for examining the biosynthesis, transport, and dynamics of PIM, LM, and LAM in various mycobacterial species.
